Rise of the Guardians

The story started when Jack Frost was telling how he became invisible and how the Man in the Moon lifted him from a frozen lake. On the North Pole, Santa Claus summoned the other Guardians, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and the Easter Bunny because he was alerted that Pitch the Bogeyman has returned. Jack was abducted by Easter Bunny and brought to Santa’s place where he was convinced and recruited by Santa to join him and the other Guardians in preventing the looming events that may happen.

It was known to Pitch that when he takes away the things that will make the children believe in the Guardians, will make the Guardians weak. So he started the attack by taking all the children’s teeth and the childhood memories stored in them, all but one. This was followed by attacking Jack and Sandy which seems to have destroyed the Sandman.

The Easter Bunny on the other hand was preparing his Easter eggs when Pitch attacked the domain leaving everything in ruin including the Spirit of the Guardians. Jack was captured by Pitch but Baby-Tooth saved him. Jack was able to restore his power then rallied with the weakened Guardians. Jamie, the last child who believes the Guardians was able to restore their powers which defeated Pitch on the final battle bringing sandy back to life. In the end, Jack finally sworn to be a Guardian.

Some reviews of this film was ridiculed because of the characters the story. Example is that, not all people believe in Santa like the Jews and Muslims. On the other hand, some people find it amusing because of the effects that were rendered on this film. It still has a story that can create an imagination for most of the children who watched the film. With the correct guidance of the parents, this is still one of the good movies out there.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Three years on Narnia’s timeline after Prince Caspian became King, Lucy and Edmund together with their annoying cousin Eustace has been transported back to Narnia by a magical painting.  The three ended up on an ocean in the way of the Dawn Treader.  Caspian rescued them and the three joined the quest of rescuing the Lords of Narnia in which Miraz (from the 2nd Narnia) banished.

The Dawn Treader arrived at Lone Islands.  Unknown to Caspian, Edmund, Eustace and Lucy, Lone Islands was besieged by men that sell the people of this island as slaves.  They were captured and later on rescued by the crews of Dawn Treader.   Another Lord of Narnia has been rescued and gave a sword to Caspian.  On this island they also discovered that some of the villagers are being sacrificed on a mysterious mist.  As they continue with their quest, they met the magician Coriakin and advised them that they need to lay down the 7 swords at Aslan’s table to defeat the mist.

Eustace became a dragon after putting an enchanted treasure on his arm.  Reepicheep made friends with Eustace and encouraged him that he has a better purpose.  They realize that there is one last missing sword on Aslan’s table and it is on the other island where the mysterious mist is located.  They manage to find it with the help of Eustace.  Eustace was turned back as boy by Aslan.  The story ended with Edmund, Eustace and Lucy entering a portal made by Aslan and the 3 made it home.

On the three episode of Narnia, this episode is the least exciting.   It is fun to watch but it lacks battle and action.  It still proves to have very good effects though.   This movie on the good side has a moral lesson.  Each man has a chance to change and this is a very good movie for young kids to learn that good values.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

One year has passed since the Pevensie siblings visited Narnia. On their way to boarding school, the London Undergorund station collapses and brought the siblings back to the magical world. On the other hand, on Narnia’s timeline, the siblings have been gone for 1,300 years. There is a kingdom established now in Narnia and is being managed by the Telmarines which in turn have a leadership crisis. Somebody is trying to assassinate Prince Caspian.

Prince Caspian was able to escape the plot against him and formed a battalion of Narnians to fight against Telmarines.  The prince now met the Kings and Queens of Old (the Pevensie siblings) and they joined forces together.  They tried raiding Miraz’s castle but they failed and half of Narnians were that attacked the castle were slaughtered.  Nikabrik with the help of a hag and a werewolf, tried to convince Caspian to bring back Jadis (the white witch).  The White Witch manipulated Caspian but Peter saw all of this and killed the hag and Edmund shattered the ice that holds Jadis.

 Returning to Aslan’s How, the Telmarines are now ready to attack the Narnians.  Knowing that they will be defeated on this battle, Lucy and Susan tried to find Aslan.  Sopespian betrayed Miraz and killed him putting blame to Narnians.  Just on time when Telmarines was about to win, Aslan awaken the trees and began attacking the human opposition.  As the Telmarines retreat, they were confronted by Aslan and Lucy on the bridge.  Aslan summons the river god killing Sopespian.  The remaining Telmarines surrendered.   The story ended with the siblings returning to England leaving Caspian as King of Narnia.
This movie is good for the family with the same necessary ingredients as the previous Narnia.  It’s not as flashy as the previous one but still enjoyable nonetheless.  Thumbs up for the producer Walt Disney for making the film suitable for a lot of ages.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

During the World War II, the four siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie tried to escape the war in London. They were sent to home in a countryside where they accidentally discovered a wardrobe, a door to Narnia.  Narnia is now under the rule of a White Witch and has tricked Edmund to join her.  Edmund found the real intention of the White Witch and decided to get back to his brother and sisters.

Along the way, they met Mr. Christmas and gave them gifts which were later used in the battle of Narnia.  They also met Aslan, the lion and his army.  As they prepare for war, the White Witch convinced Aslan that she has the right to execute Edmund because he was a traitor.  Aslan sacrificed himself in place of Edmund but was later brought back to life.

The war continued and as the Narnians are about to lose it, they got reinforcements and Aslan killed the White Witch.  The Siblings became Kings and Queens of Narnia.  Several year has passed they were able to get back in the wardrobe as children again as if they were gone in just a few hours.
This particular episode of Narnia is somewhat related to what happened in the bible.  Put Aslan in place of Jesus and Edmund represents humanity.  Jesus sacrificed himself to save humanity as Aslan sacrificed himself to save Edmund.  On the other hand, the table where Aslan was slain broke into half, as the curtain of the temple on the time of Jesus death was torn into half.  Another similarity is that, Aslan raised from the dead same with Jesus after 3 days.  This is a very good movie and highly recommended for the family.  A lot of moral lessons can be derived from the story.

Caleb Holt is the Captain of the fire brigade in Albany Georgia and he has only one rule for his men, "Never leave your partner behind".  While he is adamant in keeping this rule, it is entirely opposite on his married life.  His wife Catherine is about to leave him because they don't understand each other anymore.  It took only one heated argument and Catherine decided to leave Caleb for good.

Caleb realizing his mistakes and with his father's advice, he decided to take the 40-day test called, "The Love Dare."  It was difficult for Caleb to do the Love dare at first, but got used to it later on.  Meanwhile, Catherine thinking that her marriage will not work anymore, she decided to flirt with Dr. Gavin Keller. With the guidance of The Love Dare and because of his commitment to change and to Christ, Caleb was able to win Catherine back.

This movie was cheaply made but the story is very effective especially to those whose marriage is on the verge of destruction.  You can see how trust in Christ can solve any problems, difficult or easy. If we have issues in life, then we have to take an effort to give everything to Christ and he'll definitely lead our way.  All in all, the movie is good and is perfect for family.

Facing the Giants

The story is about a Christian football coach who went through a lot of challenges in life. The team he is managing the Shiloh Eagles never tasted victory in 6 years, so the pressure is upon him.  Other than that, a group of fathers are making a move to dismiss him as a coach.  To make things worst, he and his wife is facing infertility.  Against all odds, Grant Taylor cried out to God. He challenged his team to believe in God despite of facing the giants of fears and failures.  He himself applied this principle on his life and reaped well the fruit of his faith.

This movie was cheaply made and the actors are not so good in acting.  But the real value of this movie goes with its moral lesson.  Very good for family especially to those who have giants along their way. Sometimes there are instances in our lives where we face a lot of challenges. Sometimes things tend to get blurry on our way when things doesn't really happen according to our plan.  But let us be patient and ask God for wisdom.  God will never fail us.
