Its Christmas holiday and the McCallister family are getting ready for their flight to Paris.  The eight year old kid Kevin is being bullied by his siblings and cousins.   Kevin had a fight with his brother Buzz and was sent to third floor where he wished that his family would disappear.  The following day, everybody went into rush in the airport and went to Paris.  They totally forgot about Kevin and they only realized that Kevin was missing when they were already flying towards their destination.

Kevin was overjoyed to find his home empty of people that day.  He played, he watched gang movies, eats a lot of junk food, etc.  He also created a mess on Buzz’s room.  While alone, he needs to deal with his fear from his neighbor Mr. Marley.  He also learned that the Wet Bandits are targeting his house.  Meanwhile, Kevin’s mother Kate tried everything on getting home as soon as possible.

On Christmas Eve, Kevin befriend with Mr. Marley and went home to prepare booby traps for the two bandits who are about to rob Kevin’s house.  The two robbers are no match with the traps and suffered a lot from Kevin.  Kevin then escaped but was captured.   Mr. Marley knocked down the two bandits with a shovel and Kevin returns home.  On Christmas day, Kate arrived home and gave Kevin a big hug then the whole family arrived right after.

This movie is hilarious especially on the part were Kevin was enjoying his time alone and when the Wet Bandits are trying to rob Kevin’s house.   I’d say the whole family would definitely enjoy this and in fact one of the best family movies at all times.   A lot of moral lessons can be derived from this movie that even toddlers would be able to relate.  Two thumbs up for this movie!

Three years has passed since Cruella de Vil has been imprisoned for dog napping.  Dr. Pavlov was able to tame the mad Cruella from a fur maniac to an animal friendly philanthropist.  She was given a parole with the condition that she would pay eight million pounds to all dog homes in the borough of Westminster should she revert back to dog napping.

There is one flaw however on Dr. Pavlov’s method.  The process reverts back whenever she hears Big Ben’s bell.  One time she saw Dipstick and his puppies.  This drove Cruella back to her own personality obsessed with fur and devised a plan to get her ultimate fur coat.  She then sends her thugs Alonzo and Jean-Pierre LePelt to get 102 Dalmatian puppies.

The three villains tricked Kevin Shepherd and set up a scheme where Cruella can use him as an escape goat for the police investigation.  Kevin escapes prison and meets up with Chloe in which they were captured on a later part.  Oddball managed to rescue his family with the help of Alonzo who turned to be a good guy on the later part and put back Cruella back in prison.

A cool and a happy ending, this is what makes this movie really interesting to watch.  It’s fun and full of wits.  This movie also shows that sometimes, people never change.  Sometimes, people try to change for good but later on get back their old self creating more chaos along the way.  This film is highly recommended for young audiences though teen agers and adults won’t really enjoy this that much.

A video game designer Roger Dearly has a Dalmatian dog named Pongo.   One day while walking with his dog, Pongo tried to chase another Dalmatian named Perdy.  Roger knew that Perdy would be the love of life of his dog.  Unknowingly, the owner of Perdy also fell in love with Roger.  When the two got married, Pongo   and Perdy also had their vows.

Anita is a fashion designer who works for an obsessed smoker and fur lover named Cruella de Vil.  Anita is so inspired by their dogs so she designed a coat that matches the spots of a Dalmatian.  Cruella liked the design and will do anything just to get the right fur for the coat.  She learned that Anita’s dog gave birth to fifteen puppies so she offered Anita a decent amount of money for the dogs.  Anita refused and it drove Cruella mad.

Cruella now obsessed on getting the puppies ordered her henchmen to steal the dogs from Anita and deliver it to her old country estate.  On this building, a lot of other Dalmatian has been imprisoned as well.  With the help of the other animals and the rest of the dogs, the puppies outwit the bad guys and escaped.  Not ready to give up, Cruella arrived but was kicked to a mud and molasses.  Cruella was arrested.  Roger and Anita adopted all the Dalmatian Cruella had stolen bringing the total of 101 Dalmatians.

This movie is an old movie but is still fun to watch especially for kids.  Teenagers won’t enjoy this movie that much as well as the adults but if you’re up for a movie with a lot of good moral lessonS to learn, then this movie is for you.  The only thing that the parents need to guide the children is the smoking habits of Cruella.

The Princess Diaries

Mia Thermopolis is a geeky teenager who is pretty much unknown to everybody in school except for her best friend and his best friend’s older brother.  One day her real grandmother Queen Clarisse visited them and explained that she is the rightful heir to the throne of a small European country called Genovia.  Mia’s father is now dead and Genovia will be without ruler if does not accept her rights.

Mia ran away after hearing this news but her mother Helen convinced her to attend the princess lessons with her grandmother.  This took a lot of time and Mia began to divert a lot of time on this whilst forgetting Lilly.  This put Lilly on the edge and accused Mia of trying to be like the other girls.  Mia explained everything to her best friend and made her promise not to tell anyone.

Mia faced a lot of challenges during the transition of being a princess.  There came a point in time that Mia became the front page of the tabloids after Lana tricked her on a tent where she was semi nude.  Though the Queen was disappointed, the head of security named Joe reminded the Queen that though Mia is a princess, she is also a teenager.  Mia read a letter from her father before he died and made up her mind to accept the throne.


The Princess Diaries movie is full of wits.  Surely, teenagers will definitely enjoy this movie.  It can create a “what if” idea to those teenagers wishing they could be like Mia.  This also depicts the story of an ugly duckling to a swan.  This is highly recommended for the whole family.  It gives a very good story line with a lot of moral lesson to learn.

Shawshank Redemption

This is a story of a banker who was accused of murdering his wife and lover and was sent into prison for double life sentence in Shawshank State Penitentiary.  He made friends with an inmate called Red who is serving a life sentence.   Red gave Andy a rock hammer and poster of Rita Hayworth and years later, the poster of Marilyn Monroe and Raquel Welch.  Andy was assigned in laundry in prison but he was regularly assaulted by few gangs inside the prison.

Andy’s expertise on financial matters became very important in prison and with the guards.  He was then assigned to the library where he takes care of the prison’s financial issues.  He also requested that the library needs some improvement.  Andy received donations for the library after Brooks (a fellow inmate) hanged himself.  Norton on the other hand exploited the prison labor for public works and he had Andy launder the money for him.

On his stay in prison he made another friend whose name is Tommy Williams who later on revealed that there was another inmate on another prison who already claimed the responsibility of murdering Andy’s wife but the warden did not listen to this.  He does not want to let go of Andy.  Because of this, Andy escaped the prison and he sent evidences to local newspaper about the corruption and murders inside Shawshank prison.  He also took the money that he laundered for Norton and lived Zihuatanejo in Mexico.  Red later on joined him after receiving parole.

The story of Shawshank Redemption does happen in real life.  Corruption, murders, drugs and a lot of things still happens inside the prison.  This movie depicts the real life in prison.  The story is dramatic with a lot of lessons to learn.  The only thing that is not a good example in this story is escaping prison.  However, the story also teaches us that even in the lowest point in our lives; we still need to have hopes.  If we persevere and think smart, we will surely have a happy ending.

Rise of the Guardians

The story started when Jack Frost was telling how he became invisible and how the Man in the Moon lifted him from a frozen lake. On the North Pole, Santa Claus summoned the other Guardians, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and the Easter Bunny because he was alerted that Pitch the Bogeyman has returned. Jack was abducted by Easter Bunny and brought to Santa’s place where he was convinced and recruited by Santa to join him and the other Guardians in preventing the looming events that may happen.

It was known to Pitch that when he takes away the things that will make the children believe in the Guardians, will make the Guardians weak. So he started the attack by taking all the children’s teeth and the childhood memories stored in them, all but one. This was followed by attacking Jack and Sandy which seems to have destroyed the Sandman.

The Easter Bunny on the other hand was preparing his Easter eggs when Pitch attacked the domain leaving everything in ruin including the Spirit of the Guardians. Jack was captured by Pitch but Baby-Tooth saved him. Jack was able to restore his power then rallied with the weakened Guardians. Jamie, the last child who believes the Guardians was able to restore their powers which defeated Pitch on the final battle bringing sandy back to life. In the end, Jack finally sworn to be a Guardian.

Some reviews of this film was ridiculed because of the characters the story. Example is that, not all people believe in Santa like the Jews and Muslims. On the other hand, some people find it amusing because of the effects that were rendered on this film. It still has a story that can create an imagination for most of the children who watched the film. With the correct guidance of the parents, this is still one of the good movies out there.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Three years on Narnia’s timeline after Prince Caspian became King, Lucy and Edmund together with their annoying cousin Eustace has been transported back to Narnia by a magical painting.  The three ended up on an ocean in the way of the Dawn Treader.  Caspian rescued them and the three joined the quest of rescuing the Lords of Narnia in which Miraz (from the 2nd Narnia) banished.

The Dawn Treader arrived at Lone Islands.  Unknown to Caspian, Edmund, Eustace and Lucy, Lone Islands was besieged by men that sell the people of this island as slaves.  They were captured and later on rescued by the crews of Dawn Treader.   Another Lord of Narnia has been rescued and gave a sword to Caspian.  On this island they also discovered that some of the villagers are being sacrificed on a mysterious mist.  As they continue with their quest, they met the magician Coriakin and advised them that they need to lay down the 7 swords at Aslan’s table to defeat the mist.

Eustace became a dragon after putting an enchanted treasure on his arm.  Reepicheep made friends with Eustace and encouraged him that he has a better purpose.  They realize that there is one last missing sword on Aslan’s table and it is on the other island where the mysterious mist is located.  They manage to find it with the help of Eustace.  Eustace was turned back as boy by Aslan.  The story ended with Edmund, Eustace and Lucy entering a portal made by Aslan and the 3 made it home.

On the three episode of Narnia, this episode is the least exciting.   It is fun to watch but it lacks battle and action.  It still proves to have very good effects though.   This movie on the good side has a moral lesson.  Each man has a chance to change and this is a very good movie for young kids to learn that good values.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

One year has passed since the Pevensie siblings visited Narnia. On their way to boarding school, the London Undergorund station collapses and brought the siblings back to the magical world. On the other hand, on Narnia’s timeline, the siblings have been gone for 1,300 years. There is a kingdom established now in Narnia and is being managed by the Telmarines which in turn have a leadership crisis. Somebody is trying to assassinate Prince Caspian.

Prince Caspian was able to escape the plot against him and formed a battalion of Narnians to fight against Telmarines.  The prince now met the Kings and Queens of Old (the Pevensie siblings) and they joined forces together.  They tried raiding Miraz’s castle but they failed and half of Narnians were that attacked the castle were slaughtered.  Nikabrik with the help of a hag and a werewolf, tried to convince Caspian to bring back Jadis (the white witch).  The White Witch manipulated Caspian but Peter saw all of this and killed the hag and Edmund shattered the ice that holds Jadis.

 Returning to Aslan’s How, the Telmarines are now ready to attack the Narnians.  Knowing that they will be defeated on this battle, Lucy and Susan tried to find Aslan.  Sopespian betrayed Miraz and killed him putting blame to Narnians.  Just on time when Telmarines was about to win, Aslan awaken the trees and began attacking the human opposition.  As the Telmarines retreat, they were confronted by Aslan and Lucy on the bridge.  Aslan summons the river god killing Sopespian.  The remaining Telmarines surrendered.   The story ended with the siblings returning to England leaving Caspian as King of Narnia.
This movie is good for the family with the same necessary ingredients as the previous Narnia.  It’s not as flashy as the previous one but still enjoyable nonetheless.  Thumbs up for the producer Walt Disney for making the film suitable for a lot of ages.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

During the World War II, the four siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie tried to escape the war in London. They were sent to home in a countryside where they accidentally discovered a wardrobe, a door to Narnia.  Narnia is now under the rule of a White Witch and has tricked Edmund to join her.  Edmund found the real intention of the White Witch and decided to get back to his brother and sisters.

Along the way, they met Mr. Christmas and gave them gifts which were later used in the battle of Narnia.  They also met Aslan, the lion and his army.  As they prepare for war, the White Witch convinced Aslan that she has the right to execute Edmund because he was a traitor.  Aslan sacrificed himself in place of Edmund but was later brought back to life.

The war continued and as the Narnians are about to lose it, they got reinforcements and Aslan killed the White Witch.  The Siblings became Kings and Queens of Narnia.  Several year has passed they were able to get back in the wardrobe as children again as if they were gone in just a few hours.
This particular episode of Narnia is somewhat related to what happened in the bible.  Put Aslan in place of Jesus and Edmund represents humanity.  Jesus sacrificed himself to save humanity as Aslan sacrificed himself to save Edmund.  On the other hand, the table where Aslan was slain broke into half, as the curtain of the temple on the time of Jesus death was torn into half.  Another similarity is that, Aslan raised from the dead same with Jesus after 3 days.  This is a very good movie and highly recommended for the family.  A lot of moral lessons can be derived from the story.

Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco

Three years has passed since the journey in the woods happened.  Now the owner of Chance, Shadow and Sassy decided to take a trip into Canada.   While in the LA Airport, Chance panicked and broke free from his carrier.  This allowed Sassy and Shadow to escape and elude the airport authorities as well.

After the airport incident, they found themselves in the city of San Francisco on the other side of the bridge from home.  While trying to find their way home, Chance bumped to a Boxer called Aschan.  The boxer got annoyed and got into fight with Shadow.  Luckily, Riley and his gang rescued them but Chance got away so Riley instructed Delilah to follow Chance.

Delilah found Chance and they fell in love.  On the story, Shadow and Sassy was able to rescue a boy named Tucker and his cat from a blazing fire.  After that Chance got caught by the people from the “Blood Red Van” and was rescued by Riley and the gang for the second time.  Riley changed his mind and decided to take Chance, Shadow and Sassy to the Golden Bridge.  After crossing the bridge, the three animals were found by their owners along the road and Delilah joined them later after Bob agreed that she can stay.
This movie is highly recommended for young kids.  There is nothing in this movie that promotes violence and other things that are not good for young children.  Though the movie is quite old already, it is still good to watch together with the family.  The target audience of this movie is 4-8 years old.

The Green Mile

Green Mile is a prison in Cold Mountain Penitentiary.  The story started as a flashback as Paul Edgecomb remembered an inmate in a death row in his past life. There was a black man imprisoned and accused of raping and killing two girls.  However the black prisoner named John is shy, soft spoken and very emotional.  John later revealed his extraordinary powers by reviving mouse, healing Paul's Urinary Tract Infection and heals the terminally ill wife of the Warden.

Later on the story, John discovered the real killer of the two young girls after Wild Bill grabbed his arm.  There was an instance that John transferred the illness of the warden’s wife to Percy who in turn shoots Wild Bill.  He also showed Paul what happened and gave a part of himself.  The sad part is, though John is innocent, his execution continued.


This is a very dramatic story where a lot of points can be taken.  Here we can see that sometimes innocent suffer for others to be saved.  Another point is we cannot really judge the person by the way they look on the outside.  Overall this is a nice movie.  As a high school student, I ended up watching this film with a teary eye.

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

This is the story of the three animals whose journey began when they thought that their owners abandoned them.   Chance, Shadow, and Sassy decided to follow their owners and began heading towards the rocky mountainous wilderness.  Shadow led the group in the woodlands.  They spent their first night in woodlands in fear.  On their journey, they encountered a lot of challenges.  They ran away from bears, crossed rivers where Sassy almost drowned, and outsmart a Lion.

The three animals also met Molly, a little girl who got lost in the woods.  They guarded here and protected her until the rescuer found them.   Thinking that they are going to be impounded, they tried to escape from the rescuers unfortunately Shadow got caught.  Sassy freed Shadow from the shelter and took off not knowing that their owners are on their way to get them.  Finally they have found their way to get back from their owners.

On this film, we can see the loyalty of the animals to their owner.   The heartwarming journey will surely be enjoyed by young kids and parents alike.  Though this is an old movie, most pet lovers will still be entrapped by the message it delivers.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green

The story is about a couple who desperately want a child of their own.  Devastated by the news given by the doctors wherein they were told they can’t conceive, the couple decided to write the characteristics of the child they want in a note pad, put it in a box and bury it in a backyard garden.

After a thunderstorm which affected only their home apparently, they found out that the box was smashed into pieces and found a boy covered in mud.  The boy’s name is Timothy and he has an extraordinary feature, he has leaves growing on his legs.  The couple tried to adopt Timothy and sent the child to school.  Timothy on the other hand knows that he won’t last long with the couple and will eventually disappear as he fulfills the qualities of the child that the couple wants.  In the end, the couple adopted a daughter.

This particular film describes how a child completes a family.  Sometimes in the life of other people, they experience this kind of trial of not having a child.  This kind of trial is devastating indeed but let us not lose hope.  We need to be optimistic in life for the happiness sometimes can be found on the people that surround us.

Caleb Holt is the Captain of the fire brigade in Albany Georgia and he has only one rule for his men, "Never leave your partner behind".  While he is adamant in keeping this rule, it is entirely opposite on his married life.  His wife Catherine is about to leave him because they don't understand each other anymore.  It took only one heated argument and Catherine decided to leave Caleb for good.

Caleb realizing his mistakes and with his father's advice, he decided to take the 40-day test called, "The Love Dare."  It was difficult for Caleb to do the Love dare at first, but got used to it later on.  Meanwhile, Catherine thinking that her marriage will not work anymore, she decided to flirt with Dr. Gavin Keller. With the guidance of The Love Dare and because of his commitment to change and to Christ, Caleb was able to win Catherine back.

This movie was cheaply made but the story is very effective especially to those whose marriage is on the verge of destruction.  You can see how trust in Christ can solve any problems, difficult or easy. If we have issues in life, then we have to take an effort to give everything to Christ and he'll definitely lead our way.  All in all, the movie is good and is perfect for family.

Facing the Giants

The story is about a Christian football coach who went through a lot of challenges in life. The team he is managing the Shiloh Eagles never tasted victory in 6 years, so the pressure is upon him.  Other than that, a group of fathers are making a move to dismiss him as a coach.  To make things worst, he and his wife is facing infertility.  Against all odds, Grant Taylor cried out to God. He challenged his team to believe in God despite of facing the giants of fears and failures.  He himself applied this principle on his life and reaped well the fruit of his faith.

This movie was cheaply made and the actors are not so good in acting.  But the real value of this movie goes with its moral lesson.  Very good for family especially to those who have giants along their way. Sometimes there are instances in our lives where we face a lot of challenges. Sometimes things tend to get blurry on our way when things doesn't really happen according to our plan.  But let us be patient and ask God for wisdom.  God will never fail us.
